My son worked in 2009 at 2 jobs. His total wages on his w2 forms is $825. I am claiming him because he lives with me and goes to school. What is the cut off amount he can make before I can't claim him on my tax return

I've already tried...

You can claim him .. if a student and under the age of 24, you can claim more or less regardless of the amount earned.. as long as you pay more than half his support.

If you son has not income tax withheld, he does not have to file. If he does have some tax withheld, you can file to get a refund, but if you do this yourself, make sure you 'uncheck' the box on his return where he would claim himself. (bos 6a)

If he continues to work, have him file exempt on his W4, then there will be no need to file a return as long as his income is about $5500 or less.

Best regards,

Paul
