my sister -in -law is 63 and receiving widows social
security as her only income. her 23 year old pregnant
grandaughter and 2 year old great grandaughter lives with her and has no income. can my sister in law
claim her great grandaughter as a depenent.

As long as the child lived with her for more than half the year and she provides more than half the support, she can claim the great granddaughter.

However, if the only income she has is SS, then she will not have any taxable income so does not even need to file a tax return.
