My husband and I file a joint return & we live together. I received a $250 economic recovery payment in May. My husband did not start his SS benefits until Oct. 2009 and was therefore not eligible. On Schedule M it states married filing jointly to enter $800 on line 4 and also $500 on line 10. This is not correct as only I received the $250. Can I do it as only I getting it even though we are filing jointly and enter $400 on line 4 and $250 on line 10?
I've already tried...
I called Social Security about this and they explained why my husband did not receive his benefit. They suggested I enter as only my receiving it even though we are filing jointly but want to check with you before I do this.

Write what? I am waiting for an answer to my question.
Don't understand why I have to keep writing a comment. Haven't gotten an answer back yet.l
I feel Schedule M should have instructions for only one person receiving a payment even though you are filing jointly. Any help is very much appreciated. Thankyou. Carol Miller

Enter the amount you actually received, $250, on line 10.
The amount on line 4 depends on how you answered Line 1a.
If you checked the YES box on 1a, then enter $800 on Line 4
If you checked the NO box, then you enter your earned income (wages and business profits) on 1a, perform calculation on Line 2.
Put $800 on Line 3 and enter the smaller of Line 2 and 3 on Line 4. Then follow the rest of the instructions.
