Thanks for your answer Stacy. Yes I have my W-2. I am going to file it tomorrow. I have a question about my 2009 W-2 the federal withholding that shows on my W-2 is way lower than what was actually taken out of my checks is there anything I can do about this? because if now it works out that I would owe instead of getting a refund this does not seem right.
Thanks,
Mike M.
Do you have your year-end statements....W-2s, etc? You can still file your return. If you are due a refund you will receive it. If you owe, the IRS will send a letter calculating penalties and interest; however you can request an abatement, list your reasons (bad seizure), and they may possibly abate some of the penalties and interest.
If you can't find your year-end statements, it would probably be faster to get another copy from your employer, bank, etc. But you can also get a transcript from the IRS. You can fill out Form 4506-T (can be found on www.irs.gov) and they will send you a copy.
If you need further assistance, I would be happy to help.

Do you have your paycheck stub from the last pay period of the year? If so -- compare the YTD Federal Withholding on your pay stub with your W-2. If those two amounts are different, show them to your employer and ask them to issue a corrected W-2. Also, when you say the Federal Withholding is a lot lower than what was withheld from your paychecks -- make sure you're not taking into consideration Social Security or Medicare taxes withheld.
