Hi - IRS rules regarding dependents under 24 years of age at the end of 2009 are that your daughter must be a student AND must not have provided for over half of her support during the year AND must not be filing a joint return. If those conditions are met then you may claim your daughter as a dependent.

Hope this information is helpful.

Thanks,

Lynne

Yes, I do the financial reports, books and records and (yawn . . . ) taxes, but my real value-added proposition is helping you figure out how to increase your revenue, minimize your expenses and maximize what you get to keep! I've been working as a consulting CFO, Controller, Financial Analyst, Accountant and Tax Preparer for many years for small proprietorships, large publicly traded companies and everything in between. I've seen the best run companies with the best practices and I've also had to clean up some of the worst messes! Whether you use a shoebox, Excel, Quickbooks or a more complicated accounting software application, I've probably used it too and can help you figure out how to use it better or just get the info you need from it. I use Lacerte tax preparation software and am expert at helping you maximize your deductions and figure out how you can make more in your life or your business. View Profile
