Privacy Policy

At Teaspiller, we strive to be transparent and secure. One way we do that is communicating a privacy policy in a language not spoken by most lawyers.

Do you have any other suggestions?  As always, feel free to contact us at support@teaspiller.com.

What's Teaspiller? (and why there's yet another website in your life)

Teaspiller is a platform that saves you time and money when you do your taxes. We hope that you always find this experience to be swift and soothing.

Taxes are extremely personal

A lot of our customers worry about their personal details floating around the internet. So we try very hard to minimize the personal information we collect and share.

Teaspiller has a sophisticated security program intended to keep the information stored in our systems protected from unauthorized access. We use Amazon Web Services to store your information in secure data centers located in the United States. Our systems are configured with data encryption, or scrambling technologies and firewalls constructed to the highest industry standards. We also use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology that protects the data you send over the Internet. Credit card processing is handled by Braintree Payment Solutions, a PCI Compliant service.

What personal information is collected?

We collect personal information based on your use of our services and our business relationship with you. This information typically includes, for example, your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address. If you use the “Do My Taxes” service, certain other data is collected such as your social security number, income and deductions data, and other personal information about you and your dependents necessary to prepare your return. This data is sent securely to the Expert of your choice in a CSV file.

Some Experts are required by the Internal Revenue Service  ("IRS") to verify the identities of the individuals whose tax returns the Experts are preparing. This information is solely collected to verify that the social security number you provide is valid.

We reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on our Web site.

We may also share aggregated usage information with others. This type of information is not linked to your personal identity, including your name and address.

Teaspiller does not share, sell, rent, or trade personally identifiable information with third parties for their promotional services.

Why is my personal information collected?

We use the information we collect in a variety of ways, including to:

o    Provide you with the best customer experience possible;

o    Provide the services you purchase, and to respond to your questions;

o    Communicate with you regarding service updates, offers, and promotions;

o    Deliver customized content and advertising that may be of interest to you

What if the police come knockin' on your door?

Teaspiller may disclose to authorized law enforcement personnel the personal data from anyone who poses a threat to our interests. This might include those that are attempting to commit fraud or those who conduct activities that could bring harm to others.

Cookies (not what you dip in milk)

When you visit Teaspiller we may store information about your web session and assign you one or more 'cookies'. Your browser will store these cookies on your computer in a small text file. For example, when you decide to login as a Teaspiller member, we store encrypted information in your browser so you don't have to login on every page.

Permanent cookie files remain on your computer's hard drive until you delete them manually using your browser or operating system software. You can enable your browser to refuse cookies, but doing so may disable access to some services and tools that we offer.

Teaspiller does make money by selling advertising as well as referrals from searches on our site. Our third party advertising partners often use a cookie or third party web beacon (a single pixel GIF image) to track when a click becomes a sale. No personal information is ever sent to these advertising partners.

We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our web site. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address or telephone number) about your visits to this and other Web sites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, click here: networkadvertising.org.

You really don't like our emails?

With the exception of emails confirming registration or payment transactions, emails that include information about your account, emails related to your transaction and service announcements and administrative messages that are considered part of your account membership, we will not send you any emails unless you opt-in to receive communications from us.

If you opt-in to receive communications from us, you will receive information we believe will be of use and interest to you, including targeted email marketing messages. If you decide that you are no longer interested in receiving email communications from us, you may follow the instructions in our emails to unsubscribe from our email list.

For people barely legal and up

Teaspiller does not knowingly collect personal information from people under the age of 18. If we become aware of the fact that a minor is attempting to submit this information, we will inform the minor that he or she is ineligible to do so. We will then remove this information from our records.

The world changes; we might too

Teaspiller reserves the right to modify this privacy statement at any time. If there are material changes to this statement on how Teaspiller will use your personal information, we will post those changes to this privacy statement, the home page, and other places we deem appropriate so that you are aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.

We reserve the right to modify this privacy statement at any time, so please review it frequently.  If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you here, by email, or by means of a notice on our home page. If you have questions about our privacy policies, please send feedback to support@teaspiller.com.
