IRS e-File Help from Teaspiller
by ELIZABETH CHECKLEYe-File is the name given to the procedure of filing your taxes electronically via the IRS website or third party software, such as Teaspiller. It’s a great way to avoid the hassle of long lines at the post office on the days leading up to April 15th. Perhaps most importantly, since the return is going straight to the IRS computers, the returns are processed much more quickly and with reduced errors.
This to Know About e-Filing
- e-File is a pretty simple process from the taxpayers point of view.
- If you’ve got complicated taxes, it makes sense to e-file, as you reduce the chance that there will be an error in scanning or typing in your information at the IRS (if you sent a paper copy).
- You receive a confirmation from the IRS notifying you that they’ve received your return. If there’s a problem of any kind, you will be notified.
- Your taxes will be processed in a much shorter period of time than had you paid using a paper copy.
- There are certain situations, listed below, that you can’t use e-File for:
- If you live in a community property state, and you’re married, filing separately.
- Submitting tax forms without e-Filing equivalents.
- Claiming a dependent that has already been claimed by someone else.
- Filing outside of the e-file period of January 15th to October 15th.
